Is a Non-Traditional Lifestyle Couples Shoot Right For You?

As a non-traditional creative and documentary style photographer, I often get inspiration from the couples questionnaire that I send out as part of my booking process. I believe photography is a collaboration between the artist and his/her muse(s). I especially love indoor couples photography, because in a tight space, I am forced to get creative and it feels natural to be up in each other’s bubble which is key to my sensual style.

I encourage you to be vulnerable and share with me the ins and outs of your relationship and what makes the two of you click.

My creative process consists of reviewing the answers you chose to share with me and incorporating your accomplishments and struggles into the session. I will likely base prompts on struggles you have overcome together as well as the nuances of your particular relationship.

Examples of the questions I ask in the couples questionnaire:

What do you two do for fun? What is something that defined who you are today? What are the things you love the most about your partner? Stuff like that. I also ask both partners to list in the numerical order of importance the five love languages toward the end of the questionnaire and I inquire about the overall intent for the session.

How do you know if this type of session is right for you?

Are you both or is one of you awkward around a camera? Do you want photos that are unique to the two of you? Do you enjoy candids? Are you a hopeless romantic?

If you answered yes to most of the questions above - I am the photographer for you!

How to get your partner prepared for an intimate photo session?

Ask these questions: Would you like to have a bonded experience hanging out and loving on each other without feeling stiff or awkward and posing for the camera? Are you ready to leave all our stresses and worries behind and enjoy each other’s company? Are you curious to see our relationship from a whole new perspective?

How to get ready the day of the shoot:

Take the whole day off. Have a relaxing day together. Have breakfast, go to the pool, go for a walk, go to a park together. Anything to put your mind at ease and bring you even closer together. Avoid petty arguments and put away your worries. Have a mantra for your day together: it can be as simple as “Just Be” or “We Are One”.

How to experience your photos after the shoot:

Wait until you can both look at the photos with no other distractions. Cuddle up together with some blankets and a glass of wine. Experience your gallery together.

Enjoy each other’s company!
